Quick Looks

Manufacturer: Rho Models
Name: Proton
Scale: 1:144
Kit contents: 20 resin parts
1 photoetched part
stiff wire
Comments: Parts are solid cast resin with a smooth surface finish. The details are finely etched, but there are some pinholes. There is some flash around the engine parts, but the resin is soft and easily worked. The photoetched part is used for the interstage trusswork and really improves the look over the previous edition of this kit. The stiff wire is to represent the strapon tank braces and can be also used to replace the admittedly overscale fuel lines on the engine bells if you're really that gung-ho about scale. The instruction sheet contains a short history of the launch vehicle, text assembly instructions and side-view drawings. A text painting guide is also included. This kit is only available bundled with a Proton-Phobos kit.
Other reviews: Scale Models International, March 1995, p. 51.
Reference price: $55.00, but this also includes a Proton-Phobos kit.
