Vistapro: The Moab Series
These scenes are generated from Moab-W
DEM data and Moab- DEM
data downloaded from the USGS,
then converted into Vistapro DEM format using the MCNV
conversion program. (To see how to do this, check out the How to Create a Virtual Image Using USGS DEMs) The resulting DEM files were combined into a
huge (1024x1024) Vistapro session containing the Island in the Sky
district of Canyonlands National Park, Arches National Park and the La
Sal Mountains outside of Moab, Utah. I played with the colormap,
trying to reproduce some of the natural coloring of the landscape, but
haven't quite got there yet. Of course, reality may be impossible to
achieve given the wide range of colorations in the area. But it's
still fun to play with.
A few of the images were rendered using a 'winter' colormap to
simulate snowfall. The last image shows the effects of changing sea
level and haze, simulating severe environmental changes. There's
really no limit to what can be done with this package...
All images are 640x480 JPEG files. Consequently, they look best when
viewed with a 24 bit color card.
