This detail set is meant to be used with the Airfix Apollo Saturn V kit. It provides a set of batted F-1 engines, fins, LES tower, RCS engines and details for the BPC and SLA, along with detail parts for all three stages and first stage thrust structure details. To complete the thrust structure details, though, you will need to supply your own bits of 0.5-0.7 mm diameter plastic rod. The engines are hollow, with batted details on the exterior and smooth interiors. The other resin parts are solid, with crisply molded details and a smooth surface finish. All parts are still attached to their pour plugs. Extra parts of some of the more delicate parts are provided, which is really nice as some of the RCS engines in my sample had broken off but there are plenty to replace them. There are also extra photoetched parts included in case you misplace some of the smaller ones. The CD-ROM contains 60 detail photos of the Saturn V, most of them of the vehicle on display at Huntsville and in Florida, along with some of the flight vehicles on the pad and under construction. The instructions are broken down into stages, starting with the LES and ending with the S-IC. Each stage has wraparound drawings showing where the detail parts are to be used on the kit. You also have a choice in some instances between kit, resin and/or photoetched parts to use. Some surgery will be required on the kit parts to add some of the details.
