Janos Prohaska flew the PZL-50A Jastzrab ('hawk') against the Nazi invaders of Poland in 1939. His fighter earned him the nickname Blackhawk, which he later gave to his team. This was the first aircraft to bear the insignia of a hawk's head in a circle that would become the Blackhawk emblem.
