First Lunar Landing

Jeff has this to say about the model:
"Really nothing special was done other than creating a more realistic lunar surface. I had done lots of research regarding the lunar surface colors. What I found was although the surface appears to be grey in most photos there was a wide range from browns to reds with some greys in between. The photos you and I see have had the colors washed out by the sunlight. So I took this info and went to my hobby shop to pick up the different soils I needed. For the shadows I used a very deep dark green that looks black ( Black soil was not available but you can't tell this color is not black unless you are right on top of it in very bright light). Since you are familiar with the kit you know the shadows are molded in to the base. That being said I then painted the shadow areas with flat black (Brushed on) and while it was wet I added a nice coating of the dark soil. Yes, this was very time consuming. After I completed all the shadowed areas, the footprints were next. In order to distinguish the footprints I needed to use a darker soil than the color I was using for the surface. I picked up an earth color that was slightly darker than the color I bought for the surface and went to work. Same deal only I used a dark grey paint for the base rather than black. Once the footprints were done I did the same for the rest of the surface using the grey base paint coated with the lighter color lunar soil. This procedure alone took approx 10 hours."
