USAF Gemini-MOL
The Air Force planned to use a modified Gemini capsule in its Manned
Orbiting Laboratory (MOL) program. Modifications included cutting a
hatch in the heat shield to allow the astronauts access to the lab.
This modification was tested aboard an unmanned reflight of the Gemini
2 capsule aboard an MOL mockup flown on a Titan IIIC in November 1966.
The program was canceled before any production hardware was
finished.
