Molniya
The Molniya series of communications satellites was first
launched on April 23, 1965, and has been constantly improved, the
latest being the Molniya 3 series (first launched on November
21, 1974). These satellites carried television, telephone, and
telegraph communications. The Molniya 2 series also provided a
link for the hotline between the Kremlin and the White House beginning
November 1971.
