Quick Looks

Manufacturer: RealSpace Models
Name: SkyLab
Scale: 1:144
Kit contents: 30 resin parts
56 photoetched parts
2 resin molds
Comments: Most of the resin parts are solid, while the CSM engine bell and forward skirt parts are hollow. The resin parts are crisply molded with sharp details. The smaller parts are still on their runners and have some minor flash that will need cleanup. There are no visible airholes on the parts themselves, although there are some on the two resin parts used to mold the foil to represent the final sunshade put in place by the second crew. Since this model represents spacecraft after the launch problems, only one main solar panel is provided. A stub part represents the torn off panel. Both sunshades are provided, so you could represent Skylab at any point in its lifetime. Photoeched parts provide the trusswork for the ATM, solar panels, docking targets, and other details. The instructions are multi-step graphical assembly drawings, with some text to provide folding details for the photoetched parts which are called out by the part numbers etched next to each part. Painting guides are also included in each step. There are templates for cutting the wire and foil for the sunshades. A wraparound painting guide for the workshop and Apollo service module is also included. What's not mentioned, but is shown on the completed model on the box cover, is the white quadrant painted onto the Apollo command module.
