Comments: This kit was originally issued by Rho Models as separate Energia and Buran kits. RealSpace Models has re-engineered the kits to produce this new offering. The Buran resin kit parts are remarkably light, considering that they are solidly molded. The top resin part for the main core is hollow, while the nose cone itself feels as if it's hollow. The bottom resin part for the core feels like a regular massive chunk o'resin, so the final model won't be terribly top heavy. The engine bells are nicely hollowed out. All resin parts have crisp details with finely molded panel lines, but there are some airholes in my parts. Most parts will need their pour plugs removed, although the plugs are very useful for the parts that insert into the tubing that represents the main airframes. Precut brass rod needs to be bent to shape using a template in the instructions to add detail to the side boosters. A longer length of thinner rod needs to be cut the shape and formed around the top of the core. Other bits from the thinner rod need to be cut and glued for the mounts between the boosters and the Buran itself. There is no template for that (but there's an endview diagram showing the mount points), so you'll have to measure and cut at assembly time. Mount points for the rod are clearly evident on the resin parts. The instructions consist of multiple graphical assembly steps along with painting and decaling guides. The box cover also has a color photo of a completed kit which can help with assembly and painting.
