Quick Looks

Manufacturer: RealSpace Models
Name: Delta IV Heavy
Scale: 1:144
Kit contents: 3 PVC tubes
28 resin pieces
3 half-round strips
3 styrene rods
instruction sheet
Comments: The main airframe and strapon boosters are represented by the PVC tubes. The rest of the launch vehicle is made up of resin parts for the aft sections and engines, nose cones, and details to be used with the styrene rods to represent the oxidizer lines. A paper template is included to mark the tube for placement of the half-round styrene that represents a cabling tunnel and mounting points for the strapon motors. You will have to provide your own pins for mounting the boosters. The resin parts are crisply molded with some minor molding flaws on the aft sections and a mid-sized airhole along the bottom edge of the upper stage part in my sample. Removing the resin details from their pour plug for the oxidizer line may prove to be a bit tricky. The instruction sheet includes step-by-step graphics and text for assembling the kit. An exploded drawing and painting guide are also included in the instructions. The kit box has a photo of the assembled and painted model.
