Mir seen from STS63 Discovery

STS-63

The first three shuttle missions to the Mir Space Station provided a number of very good photographs of the space station that can be used to detail any model of Mir. The first shuttle to visit, Discovery on STS-63, did not dock with the station, but demonstrated that a docking was possible. Photos returned from that mission also include IMAX images.

STS-71

The first docking of the US Space Shuttle Atlantis to the Russian Mir station occurred during shuttle mission STS-71. This mission delivered two cosmonauts to the station and returned two cosmonauts and US astronaut Norm Thagard who spent several months performing medical research. Photos from that mission include photos from the electronic still camera, IMAX images, and photos of the Atlantis and Mir (taken by cosmonauts in a Soyuz spacecraft).

STS-74

The second docking of Atlantis to Mir attached a docking adaptor module to the station to allow easier dockings for future missions. Images are available from the electronic still camera and more conventional film.
