This kit depicts a proposed alternative to the cancelled Ares launch vehicle. Parts are provided to depict either the cargo version or crewed version of the rocket. Most of the resin parts are hollow and lightweight. The base of the core, though, is a solid chunk of resin which should make a nice stable model. The parts are packed into separate labeled bags for easy identification, which is good, because several of the parts are very similar and could be mixed up if you're not careful. The resin parts have crisp details and a slightly rough surface finish. The cylindrical parts have seams that need some attention. There are some molding gunges of varying severity on some of the parts and all of the mating surfaces will need cleanup. The instruction sheet includes a parts list and text assembly steps for the straightforward assembly process. Inkjet printed decals are provided for the proposed marking scheme. No painting or marking guide is included: a link to the DIRECT web site (http://www.directlauncher.com/) is noted, but that link now appears to be dead. Fortunately, the scheme is on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DIRECT.
