SIDE/CCIG system combination.
The experiment was originally designed to be contained
within the same box as the SIDE, but the strong magnet it used interfered
with the functioning of the SIDE

Apollo Experiment Number: S 058
Apollo Missions: 12, 14, 15
Wt: 5.7 kg
Dim: 34.0 x 11.7 x 30.5 cm
This experiment consisted of
a small canister-looking device attached by a cable to the Suprathermal
Ion Detector (SIDE). Unlike the SIDE, this device was designed to measure
only the amount (pressure) of the tenuous lunar atmosphere.
On A 12 & 14, the stiffness
of the cable that connected it to the SIDE kept causing either the SIDE
or the CCIG to fall over or slide out of alignment. For A 15, the CCIG
was put at the end of a boom that held it properly in place.
